Non-Catholic friend receiving Communion |

Father, I am bothered by a decision I have to make, if any. A non-Catholic friend who was married to a non-practicing Catholic recently told me that he often received communion whenever his wife did go to church and Mass. I do not know all the details but I do want to know if it is any of my business to let him know about the guidelines of our Catholic faith in what concerns receiving the Holy Eucharist. I did ask him if he knew he was receiving the Body, Blood, Soul and Divinity of our Savior. He did not reply but later kidded about my resembling a nun with my question. Do I have the right to pursue this issue further. He is 80 years old and just lost the wife recently. I fear he will continue this, but wonder if I should just let this go and leave it up to God and his Ways. Thanks

Intercession of the saints |

I understand God knows our every thought and petition. We are told and taught that the saints are there to intercede for us. Since they cannot hear us, not being God, then actually we are letting God listen to us "pray" to the saints. Why then, are we told to do that. I am thinking I spend much time talking to them and begging their help and never get answered because in reality, they cannot do anything to help me if it is not God's will. Please, Father, straighten me out! Thank you

When a person who was estranged from the Church passes away |

Fathers. If we think (I know only God knows) a person who died without going to confession in more than 50 years, or received the sacraments and had an obvious indifference to anything religious, they are in purgatory and offer Masses and prayers for them, well, we do not know where they are in reality, only hope that they are saved, right? I am not sure what really to accept in that regard because I hear from priests that only souls dying in the state of grace are in purgatory. It is a sad thought and does bother me a lot. Thank you for all the helps I read in your column. I hope you can understand my anxiety in this.
